How to build trust with online customers
When customers walk into your brick and mortar store or waltz into your office, it is easier for them to judge your business based on the look of your office, the attitude of your staff and the way they are received and dealt with.

It is a lot different when it comes to the world of e-commerce. Things just don’t work the way things work offline -- There is no polite or courteous staff who are entrusted to delight your customers and even you aren’t going to be there to get your customers to share your passion and excitement that you have when it comes to your products or services .

In the virtual world, the customer looking to shop online is a rather impatient, unforgiving, discerning, well-informed and very suspicious one. She is not going to fall for tall claims, unjustified talk and pushy, salesy pitch. She isn’t going to take your word on your website because she would ratify whatever information you would have shared on your site with others online.

When it comes to customers online, they are not really going to be suckers for your freebies and your baseless fluff talk so what are you supposed to do when it comes to building trust online?

1. Pre-sell with content: Even before you sell anything, it would help if you could earn your customer’s trust by providing them with superb, unique, targeted content that they could not do without. They would eventually begin to trust your word on anything to do with this particular subject that you are apparently an expert on. Selling anything hence forth, would be easy. Wouldn’t it?

2. Have testimonials on your website: Not ordinary testimonials that read like personal notes with a name at the bottom. You got to have real testimonials with their websites, contact emails or phone numbers if possible. Of course you will have to take their permission to publish their testimonials with their contact information there. You would have realized that this is impossible if your products and services don’t make them happy.

3. Avoid the sales talk: Don’t push your customers. No matter what the ‘experts” tell you, don’t tell them that you are going to push the prices up very soon and hence they should buy right now. Don’t come across as desperate no matter what and let them take their own decisions.

4. Give them a money back guarantee: Not for namesake. Do it truly. You really won’t lose much, but you’d certainly increase the trust factor when someone is contemplating to buy your products. A 60 to 9- money back guarantee should do the trick.

5. Make it easy for them to shop: When shopping online, customers don’t want anything complicated. They want all the information related to their purchase to b found easily. They need to be able to make decisions on the spot. That would mean that you’d have to make it all very easy for them to do the same. For example, if you sell physical products that have to be shipped, you would really create a lovely shopping experience if you can provide the total, accurate costs involved in the purchase including the shipping, taxes and everything else associated with the shipping.
